Highlights:
Features the foundation of song writing in the context of genre mixing. Styles range anywhere from Jazz to Rock, to Funk and Brazilian, with influences from West Ghana, Africa, China and the Middle East.
Course Description:
Master songwriter JB Eckl, writer for Grammy-award winning artists such as Santana and Ozomatli, is joined by Award winning performer, Eric Picotte-Harper to illustrate the methods used in melding music styles which are traditionally not heard together!
Eric and JB guide students through the structure of selected songs and compose live and impromptu using both self-selected styles and those chosen by the students. This enables student-exposure to styles of songwriting and composition, which are not commonly mixed together. Students are encouraged to ask questions and voice opinions. This method of teacher-student participation welcomes students into a world where and foreign and familiar musical elements.
Objectives:
Students are exposed to cross-cultural composition and collaboration techniques and mindset to forge new thoughts of music.
Levels:
This one-time course is designed for students with an interest in diverse music and blending approaches to songwriting and music composition.
