Flamenco with La Fiera – Post-Franco Fusion

Recent winner of a prestigious professional development grant to study flamenco in Spain, and the premier flamenco instructor in her hometown of Victoria Canada, Monique “La Fiera” Salez stretches the boundaries of flamenco engaging her students by fusing flamenco with elements of hip-hop and modern dance --combining theory with raw expression!

Course Description:
Monique begins with the traditional complex dance form, working with both 12/8 palos solea por bulerias and bulerias, and 4/4 palos tientos and tangos. Students then explore the potential inherent in blending flamenco aesthetic and its percussive elements (footwork, snaps, palmas) with varying musical genres.

Following a brief introduction to the post-Franco influences, isolation exercises are the primary focus, fusing modern, jazz, hip hop with flamenco technique, culminating in a series of short choreographic combinations - highlighting the endless potential of this eclectic and vibrant art form.

Objectives:
Students are encouraged to push the envelope with flamenco by integrating other forms of dance; Ideal for students with diverse dance training who are interested in expanding their stylistic repertoire and exploring new musical genres.

Levels:
Master Class is well suited for intermediate to advanced dancers. However, it can be modified for beginner level dancers.
