Course Description:
Weaving together a tapestry of recorded music, historical documentation, photographs, and live performance, Eric relates the rich history of this music and its function in preserving history, educating generations and healing the wounds of racial prejudice. Students examine the significance of Negro Spirituals as a form of social protest and a testament to social reform.
Objectives:
Students jump into history, aspects of praise and worship, vocal warm-up exercises, awareness: jaw & tongue, vocal freedom/relaxation, diction & pure vowel production, rhythm & tonality, breath control and music terminology.
